QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE
Am I truly welcome here?
Short answer… YES! Long answer… We at TLC welcome ALL people under heaven. ALL means ALL! There are no prohibitions or pre-requisites to worship and fellowship here and you do not need to be anything other than who God created you to be. We strive to live into what St. Paul tells the church in Rome, “Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (Rom. 15:7).
What do I wear to church?
There is no dress code at Troy Lutheran Church. We have individuals who come decked out in suits and dresses and those who wear shorts and flip-flops. We hold to the truth that Jesus Christ comes to every person regardless of what clothes they have on.
Is the church ADA accessible?
Yes. One may gain access to a wheelchair ramp by entering through the rear entrance (adjacent to Swan Alley). The sanctuary is equipped with a sound system to assist the hearing impaired. There is an ADA compatible bathroom on site.
What kind of worship does this church engage in?
Troy Lutheran Church is a Christian congregation that follows a structured pattern of worship rooted in ancient traditions and centered on Word and Sacrament. Services typically include elements like confession and absolution, Scripture readings, a sermon, hymns, creeds, and Holy Communion, all arranged according to the church year and lectionary. This liturgical rhythm reflects Lutheran theology—especially the proclamation of law and gospel—and emphasizes God's grace through Christ in both word and ritual. The liturgy serves not just as formality, but as a means of shaping faith, fostering community, and connecting worshipers to the historic and global church.
Do I need a Bible to worship here?
No. If you have one please feel free to bring it with you but we have Bibles available, if you would like. However, the scripture readings for the day will be read by a “lector” during worship and you are invited to merely listen to the Word of God, or you may follow along in your Bible or the bulletin which will have the scripture readings printed within it.
Am I welcome to partake in the sacrament of Holy Communion?
Absolutely! All are welcome to God’s table! We do not believe that God would ever tell a person that they are not welcome or unworthy to receive what God promises in this meal. The bread of life and the blood of salvation is given to all who desire to receive what Christ promises in the meal.
If you feel uncomfortable or merely do not wish to receive Holy Communion, please consider coming forward and receive a blessing from the pastor. Simply cross your arms across your chest and the pastor will know that you would like to be blessed instead of receiving the sacrament.
